There was something exciting about those conversations, about asking to get the right person on the phone. It's not like that now. Everyone has cell phones, all sorts of messengers. It has become easier to contact a friend, but at the same time there is no longer any excitement in anticipation of when the other end of the line will pick up the phone, whether it will be the right person or whether you will still have to say the phrase: "Hello, could you put Emma on the phone?"
